ONEUS Releases 9th Mini Album 'PYGMALION': Ready to Cement Their Legacy as 4th Generation K-Pop Performers
K-pop group ONEUS is set to solidify their unrivaled presence with their most impressive performance yet.
ONEUS releases their 9th mini album, 'PYGMALION,' on May 8 (KST) through various music sites. Making a comeback after approximately eight months since their 8th mini album, 'MALUS,' the new album conveys ONEUS's determination to break free from their past and be reborn, much like the 'Pygmalion effect' where expectations and hopes lead to actual positive outcomes.
The title track, 'ERASE ME,' is an emo pop genre that blends orchestra and EDM elements. The song starts off quietly, representing the emptiness of the past, and gradually builds up to an explosive emotional climax. The intense beat reminiscent of ONEUS's early songs, combined with the members' deepened vocals, offers a highly addictive listening experience. The track signifies a transcendent '42 World,' where the 4th generation group captures the emotions of the 2nd generation.
The music video released alongside the song depicts ONEUS discovering their true selves by awakening the emotions hidden within. Losing their lives like plaster statues under the pressure of countless emotions, the members eventually breathe warmth into each other's hands and move towards a new hope. The minimal yet abstract space enhances the immersion with the members' subtle facial expressions and detailed performances.
In addition to 'ERASE ME,' 'PYGMALION' includes a total of five tracks: 'Intro: LETHE,' which expresses the precariousness of pain through the melodies of cello and violin; 'Unforgettable,' a rhythmic sound reminiscent of a brilliant moment from a movie; 'ECHO,' featuring the members' charming vocal colors as they whisper love; and 'Halley's Comet,' which delicately captures the fleeting moment of falling in love. Member Ido's name appears in the credits for 'ECHO,' showcasing his growing musical capabilities.
'PYGMALION' is an album that candidly reveals the emotions and overcoming process ONEUS experienced throughout their five years since debut. In particular, ONEUS is determined to prove their worth as the '4th Generation Representative Performer' through the 'ERASE ME' performance. With their energetic group dance and the added resolve, their 'knife-like' performance further solidifies ONEUS as a group worth watching.
