Lee Seung-gi Delights Sick Children with a Surprise Concert on Children's Day
Singer and actor Lee Seung-gi brought joy to young patients at the Seoul National University Children's Hospital ahead of Children's Day on May 5th.
According to hospital staff and attendees, Lee Seung-gi held a surprise concert at the Seoul National University Children's Hospital in Jongno-gu, Seoul, on May 3rd at 2 PM. Lee Seung-gi personally proposed the event to the hospital, hoping to provide fun and courage to the children who must spend their time in the hospital for treatment on Children's Day, as well as comfort to their families.
Comedian Yang Se-hyung, who worked with Lee Seung-gi on the SBS variety show 'All the Butlers,' served as the MC for the event, bringing laughter to the young patients and their families. The event, held in a small hall within the hospital, was attended by around 250 people, including patients, their families, and hospital staff.
During the concert, Lee Seung-gi performed songs such as "Don't Worry, My Love," "Mackerel," and "Thank You," eliciting cheers from the audience. The performance, which lasted for over an hour, left Lee Seung-gi, the children, their families, and hospital staff with smiles on their faces. Additionally, Lee Seung-gi prepared small gifts and food for the patients and their families as a substitute for Children's Day presents.
Previously, on December 29th last year, Lee Seung-gi donated 2 billion KRW to Seoul National University Children's Hospital. At that time, he expressed his desire to provide a better treatment environment for sick children and their families after visiting the hospital. He also deeply empathized with the structural problems of children's hospitals, which often face deficits due to treating patients, and the reality of declining support for pediatric and adolescent medical specialists. This led to his decision to support the hospital's fund for improving the treatment environment.
Lee Seung-gi, who has always shown great interest in children, expressed his desire to be a strong support for children who cannot receive assistance due to their circumstances, even if they have the ability to do well. This sentiment led to his donation to Seoul National University Children's Hospital and the decision to hold a concert ahead of Children's Day. Despite being incredibly busy with preparations for his upcoming Asian tour concert "Boy, Walking on the Road - Chapter 2" starting on May 4th, Lee Seung-gi was determined to hold the concert.
Lee Seung-gi's generosity continued recently, as he and his wife, Lee Da-in, donated 110 million KRW to the Korean Red Cross last month to support families in need of social care and pregnant mothers, as well as the victims of the Gangneung wildfire. The donation came from the congratulatory money they received at their wedding on April 7th, adding further meaning to the gesture.
Lee Seung-gi, who announced a new start with Human Made last December, is gearing up for the premiere of two new variety shows: TV Chosun's 'Brothers' on May 22nd and SBS's new talk show 'Strong Heart League' on May 23rd. Both programs feature Lee Seung-gi and Kang Ho-dong, raising expectations for their collaboration.
