Lee Chae-yeon's 'Knock Challenge' Takes YouTube and TikTok by Storm
K-pop idol Lee Chae-yeon is rapidly rising in popularity on video platforms like YouTube and TikTok.
The recent release of her title track "Knock" and the accompanying dance, known as the "Knock Challenge," has garnered significant attention in the form of short-form videos.
Various idols, including ITZY's Chaeryeong, renowned dancer Rozalin, Kepler's Xiaoting, and Monsta X's Jooheon, have participated in the Knock Challenge, earning high view counts on YouTube and TikTok.
A Knock Challenge short featuring Lee Chaeyeon and her sister, ITZY's Chaeryeong, has amassed 9.44 million views on YouTube and 16 million views on TikTok.
For K-pop artists, video platforms like YouTube have long been a stage and broadcast station, with most artists releasing new songs and performance videos for their fans. Additionally, idols continue to appear on popular web variety shows.
Short-form content has recently emerged as a new promotional tool for artists, particularly among younger viewers. According to YouTube, artists who actively post short videos see significant increases in subscriber counts and exposure to their music.
Lee Chaeyeon is a prime example of a K-pop artist utilizing short-form content to effectively promote her music and dance, fueling the growth of her channel.
As per TubeGuide's first week of May weekly view count ranking, Lee Chaeyeon's official YouTube channel recorded 45.83 million views, skyrocketing to 6th place among K-pop channels.
Excluding major K-pop agency channels like HYBE, her ranking is 4th among artist channels, following BLACKPINK, BTS, and SEVENTEEN.
Lee Chaeyeon's official YouTube channel, which was launched in September of the previous year, currently has 303,000 subscribers, but is growing rapidly due to the success of the Knock Challenge. During the first week of May, her channel gained 70,000 new subscribers, ranking 8th on TubeGuide's weekly subscriber count ranking.
A former member of girl group IZ*ONE, Lee Chaeyeon is actively promoting her second mini-album "Over The Moon" as a solo artist.
Boosted by the popularity of the challenge content, the "Knock" music video exceeded 16 million views on YouTube within just three weeks of its release.
