SEVENTEEN on Debuting as 13: 'If We Worried About Food Expenses, We Wouldn't Have Started'
SEVENTEEN expressed their feelings about their recent remarkable achievements, such as surpassing 4 million initial sales.
On the SBS 'News Briefing' broadcast on May 3, SEVENTEEN members Joshua, Woozi, Mingyu, and Dino appeared. Their mini-album 'FML' pre-order sales exceeded 4.64 million, achieving a record-breaking number. Woozi said, "We never expected it. Not only us but also our company family didn't expect this number," adding, "We still feel surreal but are grateful and active with this in mind."
Mingyu expressed gratitude to their fans, saying, "I remember our debut album sales were 1,400. It has grown almost 3,000 times. We're incredibly happy and feel rewarded, and we think we should repay our Carats."
Regarding being called the second BTS, Dino humbly answered, "It's a great honor. Every time we receive such attention, we feel a great sense of responsibility and prepare our albums and stages a lot so that we can repay our global Carat fans."
SEVENTEEN has maintained all 13 members without any changes for the past nine years. Woozi said, "We used to live together as 13, but now we live separately," and when asked if they ever fought, Mingyu proudly showed off their strong friendship, saying, "We did fight, but we always reconciled and became closer. Aligning opinions isn't easy, but our dreams and goals are the same."
Woozi shared a story of their CEO, saying, "Our CEO heard a lot of jokes from friends, like 'How will you feed 13 people if they debut?' Whether they were upset or not, they came to us and said that if they worried about food expenses, they wouldn't have started, giving us confidence."
SEVENTEEN is currently promoting with the double title tracks 'FML' and 'Son Oh Gong'. Woozi introduced 'FML' as a song that aims to "capture the message of fighting and winning against the world because everyone appears to be living roughly and fiercely when looking deeper, even though the world seems beautiful and lovely on the surface."
Regarding 'Son Oh Gong', Dino asked for fans to give it a listen, saying, "It's a song that expresses the evolving SEVENTEEN with the same energy as Son Oh Gong. The song is very magnificent and heart-stirring."
When asked about their future goals, Woozi turned the attention to their fans, saying, "We only had clear goals during our trainee days and early debut. Thankfully, we continue to achieve our expected goals, and if we have a goal to talk about now, it's to make our Carats shine even more brilliantly than now."
