BTS, SEVENTEEN, Le Sserafim, and NewJeans: Beyond 'K-pop Top' to Make New Global Record-Breaking History
Artists from HYBE Labels, including BTS, SEVENTEEN, Le Sserafim, and NewJeans, are continuously setting global historical records beyond the top of K-pop.
On May 3 (KST), HYBE Labels, including Big Hit Music, Pledis Entertainment, Source Music, and Ador, cited recent domestic and international chart announcements, reporting on their artists' global record-breaking achievements.
According to the reports, artists like BTS, SEVENTEEN, Le Serafim, and Newzins are setting unprecedented records in various aspects, including global charts like Billboard and Oricon, domestic and international streaming indicators on Spotify and Melon, and physical album sales.
Firstly, BTS, led by two members SUGA (under the stage name Agust D) and Jimin, who embarked on their first solo ventures, are achieving records that rival the group's accomplishments.
SUGA released his solo album 'D-DAY' and title track 'Haegeum' as Agust D on the 21st of last month, achieving overwhelming success by topping various charts, including No. 58 on the 'Hot 100' and No. 2 on the 'Billboard 200.'
Additionally, Jimin showcased his global artist sensibility by charting for five consecutive weeks with his first solo album 'FACE' (No. 70 on the Billboard 200) and title track 'Like Crazy' (No. 97 on the Hot 100).
SEVENTEEN recently achieved an all-time high initial sales record of 4,552,140 copies with their 10th mini-album 'FML.' They are also dominating the Japanese Oricon chart with the same album, capturing the top spots in both the weekly digital album and album rankings.
With the upcoming release of their double title track 'F*ck My Life' music video on the 8th, another global record is anticipated, reflecting in the official U.S. Billboard chart.
Le Sserafim is at the center of attention for achieving the highest first-day sales record among K-pop girl groups with 1,024,034 copies of their first full-length album 'UNFORGIVEN.'
Their title track 'UNFORGIVEN (feat. Nile Rodgers)' has reached the top of domestic music charts such as Bugs (No. 2), Melon (No. 4), and Genie (No. 7), and the title track's music video surpassed 20 million views, showcasing a meteoric rise in just one year since their debut.
NewJeans has achieved a long-run success by reaching 300 million streams on Spotify with songs like Ditto, OMG, and Hype boy. They also ranked No. 1 in cumulative plays on the Oricon chart with Ditto.
Their global presence as the "youngest on top" is further solidified with their confirmed appearance at Japan's 'Summer Sonic' in August and their selection for the U.S. Gold House's 2023 'A100.'
In this way, HYBE Labels' artists, including BTS, SEVENTEEN, Le Sserafim, and NewJeans, are rewriting the history of K-pop that encompasses both domestic and international markets.
