LE SSERAFIM Addresses Plagiarism Allegations in Album Showcase
LE SSERAFIM, a K-pop girl group, has been facing accusations of plagiarism, as their music has drawn comparisons to that of Spanish singer Rosalía. Despite the criticisms, LE SSERAFIM aims to demonstrate their unique creativity and solidify their position in the entertainment industry.
LE SSERAFIM Confronts Plagiarism Claims
During a media showcase on May 1st in Seoul's Gwangjin district, LE SSERAFIM's Kim Chae-won spoke out about the plagiarism controversy. She emphasized their music as "unique creations," despite comparisons with Spanish singer Rosalía. The event marked the release of their first full-length album, "UNFORGIVEN."
Rosalía's Music Comparisons
Critics and social media users have noted similarities in melody and rhythm between LE SSERAFIM's music and Rosalía's "Chicken Teriyaki" since the group's debut. The group has faced similar allegations of plagiarism concerning their songs "Anti-Fragile" and "Peerless" due to perceived resemblances to Rosalía's music and visuals.
LE SSERAFIM Responds to Accusations
During an interview with a foreign media outlet, LE SSERAFIM members mentioned Rosalía as an inspiration when asked about Latin artists. Addressing the ongoing controversy at the media showcase, Kim Chae-won said, "We think our songs and concepts are unique creations that convey our own stories and messages. We would be grateful if you would think of them as such."
"UNFORGIVEN" Album Emphasizes Determination
Featuring 13 tracks, "UNFORGIVEN" narrates LE SSERAFIM's growth journey and their commitment to their beliefs since their debut. The title track, a fusion of hip-hop and punk rhythms, sends a message of breaking free from societal norms. The album marks the beginning of a new era for the group.
LE SSERAFIM's Background and Challenges
LE SSERAFIM, a five-member girl group under Source Music and HYBE, consists of Chaewon, Eunchae, Kazuha, Sakura, and Yunjin. Initially, Kim Garam was part of the debuting lineup, but her contract was terminated in July 2022 following bullying accusations. The group made their official debut on May 2, 2022, and has experienced lineup changes and challenges in the entertainment industry.
With their latest album, LE SSERAFIM hopes to silence critics and showcase their unique sound and artistic vision. As they confront these challenges, their determination and talent could be the key to overcoming the plagiarism controversy and establishing themselves as artists with a distinct and original sound.
