ENHYPEN Soars to New Heights in K-Pop Scene with Upcoming May Comeback
ENHYPEN is set to make a grand return amidst the May comeback rush, captivating fans' excitement. According to their label, Belift Lab, the group is currently working on their new album, aiming for a May release. This comeback follows their 3rd mini-album, "MANIFESTO: DAY 1," released in July last year, marking a 10-month gap between releases.
Although they have engaged in various activities, such as releasing a Japanese album, embarking on their first world tour, and performing in Japan's dome concerts, the anticipation for their new album is high due to the lengthy gap. With artists like LeSeraPhim, BTOB, SHINee, aespa, (G)I-DLE, and Stray Kids also confirmed for comebacks around the same time, expectations are soaring for ENHYPEN's unique and differentiated stage performances.
ENHYPEN's exceptional talents and charms have been evident since their debut in November 2020. In just two years, the seven-member group consisting of Jungwon, Heeseung, Jay, Jake, Sunghoon, Sunoo, and Ni-ki, has built a strong fandom showcasing their diverse charms and highly polished skills. Their first full-length album, "DIMENSION: DILEMMA," released in their second year, achieved "million-seller" status with cumulative sales of 1.13 million copies in October 2021, according to the Gaon Monthly Album Chart.
The group's recent mini-album, "MANIFESTO: DAY 1," sold 1.24 million copies in its first week on the Hanteo Chart, proving their solid domestic and international fan base. As a result, ENHYPEN became the first K-pop group to achieve million-seller status with two albums in the shortest time (1 year and 9 months) since debut.
ENHYPEN has also made remarkable achievements in Japan. Their first full-length Japanese album, "定め(Sadame)," and second mini-album, "BORDER: CARNIVAL," ranked No. 1 on the Oricon Weekly Album Chart for two consecutive weeks in November 2021 and May 2021, respectively. They became the first artist to achieve this since the chart began its tally.
The group has also established itself as a top-tier "performance-based boy group" alongside TREASURE, holding 22 successful concerts in 12 cities worldwide during their first world tour, "ENHYPEN WORLD TOUR 'MANIFESTO'." In January, they set a new record by being the fastest 4th generation K-pop boy group to hold a solo dome concert in Japan, attracting a total of 80,000 attendees across two shows.
In addition to their global popularity, ENHYPEN has been involved in special collaboration projects, such as being the first K-pop boy group to enter the American animation market with "Baby Shark's Big Movie!" (working title). They have also become the first K-pop boy group with all members attending international fashion weeks, showcasing their versatility in various fields.
Despite the lengthy gap between album releases, ENHYPEN has continued to grow through diverse experiences. Fans eagerly await their fresh, yet refined comeback as they continue to write their "growth narrative" in the competitive K-pop scene. Attention is also focused on the message ENHYPEN will deliver in their new album, following the self-reflective and self-conscious message in their previous work, "MANIFESTO: DAY 1."
