KARA's Kang Jiyoung Returns to Acting with Special Appearance in 'Dr. Cha'
Singer and actress Kang Jiyoung is making a comeback in the acting industry.
According to broadcast insiders today (April 14th), Kang Jiyoung will appear in JTBC's new Saturday-Sunday drama 'Dr. Cha' (directed by Kim Daejin and Kim Jungwook, written by Jung Yeorang). Kang Jiyoung is said to make a bold and colorful entrance in the latter part of the series, adding a fresh twist to the drama.
With this appearance, Kang Jiyoung will be accelerating her acting career. She made her debut in the music industry in 2008 as a member of the girl group "KARA" and has since expanded her acting career in Japan with roles in NTV dramas 'Hell Teacher Nube,' 'Higanbana - Keishicho Sosa 7-ka,' and the movie 'Leon.'
Kang Jiyoung has also appeared in domestic dramas. In 2020, she made a stable return to the Korean entertainment industry by playing the lead role of Kim Ajin PD in JTBC's "Late Night Snack Man and Woman." Last year, she made a special appearance in SBS's 'I'll Become Your Night' as singer-songwriter Nina.
At the end of last year, she focused on the activities of "KARA" as a complete group. In November, they released their song "When I Move" and won a first-place trophy on music shows. Recently, they concluded their activities with their first complete group fan meeting in Seoul in nine years.
As Kang Jiyoung returns to acting after a long hiatus, anticipation is building for her new transformation in "Dr. Cha." The drama, which features her special appearance, tells the story of Cha Jeongsuk, a housewife of 20 years who becomes a first-year resident and tries to heal her torn life.
The cast includes Uhm Jung-hwa, Kim Byung-chul, Myung Se-bin, and Min Woo-hyuk. "Dr. Cha" will premiere on JTBC at 10:30 PM on Saturday, April 15th (KST).
