NewJeans' Hit 'Zero' Evokes Nostalgia for Iconic BIGBANG x 2NE1 Collaboration
NewJeans' latest track "Zero" has been garnering praise from music enthusiasts and media, while also reminding long-time K-pop fans of the legendary BIGBANG x 2NE1 song.
Remarkable Success of NewJeans' Ad Campaign Song 'Zero' Although "Zero" is an ad campaign song for Coca-Cola, the achievements of NewJeans' new track have been undeniably impressive.
On March 30, Coca-Cola chose the rising K-pop girl group as its global ambassador. This collaboration led to the release of the ad campaign song "Zero" on April 3, accompanied by a promotional music video.
Blending various genres like pop and R&B, "Zero" showcases the unique appeal of NewJeans while conveying the excitement of Coca-Cola Zero. The song's catchy rhythm and memorable melody have made it an instant hit among listeners.
Despite the controversy surrounding the song's lyrics, which explicitly reference its commercial nature, "Zero" has managed to secure a spot on various music charts. Within two hours of its release, the track entered the top 10 on several domestic music sites, reaching No. 4 on the MelOn TOP100 as of 8 a.m. KST on April 5.
NewJeans' music video has also received accolades from K-pop fans, with views expected to exceed 8 million by April 6. "Zero" has ranked highly not only in Korea but also in 26 countries, including Japan, Taiwan, and Canada.
Nostalgia for BIGBANG x 2NE1's 'Lollipop' NewJeans' "Zero" has evoked memories of BIGBANG x 2NE1's 2009 commercial music hit, "Lollipop." Both groups released their respective songs while still relatively new on the scene, and both tracks achieved considerable success.
"Lollipop" was released as promotional music for LG's mobile phone of the same name, while "Zero" was created for Coca-Cola. Upon release, "Lollipop" also dominated local music charts.
One key difference between the two songs is the treatment of their promotional lyrics. While "Zero" openly includes "Coca-Cola" in its lyrics, "Lollipop" concealed its promotional message, leading newer fans to associate the song with sweet candy rather than a mobile phone.
Nonetheless, the positive response to NewJeans' "Zero" from both fans and the media highlights the group's growing popularity and its potential to follow in the footsteps of K-pop legends BIGBANG and 2NE1.
