As f(x) remains on an indefinite hiatus, lead rapper Amber is said to be preparing for her re-debut in a new girl group, following reports of her participation in a Chinese survival show.

Amber Reportedly Joins 'Sisters Who Make Waves 2023' Girl Group Survival Show According to multiple Chinese entertainment outlets, f(x) Amber is set to join the fourth season of the Chinese survival show "Sisters Who Make Waves 2023" in hopes of re-debuting in a new girl group. The show has previously featured former miss A member Fei and Girls' Generation's Jessica.

The show's goal is to cast women in their 30s and older, giving them a chance to experience a "second heyday" by competing for a spot in a new girl group. A total of 33 contestants, including 17 Chinese, 4 Hong Kongers, 5 Taiwanese, and 7 other foreigners, are expected to participate, based on a list revealed by several outlets.

f(x) Amber's name was spotted among the foreign participants, piquing the interest of K-pop fans. Local media reports indicate that the first recording took place in Changsha, China, with Amber scoring 74 points in audience voting during the initial competition. It remains to be seen if she can maintain this support until the final round.

If Amber makes the final lineup, she will re-debut in a new girl group after her departure from SM Entertainment and during f(x)'s ongoing hiatus. This move could mark her transition from K-pop idol to Mando-pop star.

Korean actress Choo Ja Hyun is also expected to join the program. The 44-year-old star was seen traveling to Changsha from her home in Beijing. However, reports suggest that she did not make it to the top 20 after the first round.

Choo Ja Hyun had been working actively in China since 2007 until the Korean celebrity ban occurred. As the ban eased, she expressed her desire to re-enter the Chinese entertainment industry.

The Status of f(x) Members

Legendary K-pop girl group f(x) was formed by SM Entertainment in 2009 and consisted of Victoria, Luna, Amber, Krystal, and the late Sulli. Known for hits like "Electric Shock," "Rum Pum Pum Pum," and "La Cha Ta," the group saw Sulli leave in 2015, with the remaining members pursuing solo endeavors since 2016.

From 2019 to 2021, the members left SM Entertainment one by one. Victoria now focuses on her acting career in China, Krystal is pursuing acting in Korea, Luna has become a musical actress, and Amber continues her solo music career.

Despite these changes, the members have reiterated that f(x) has not disbanded and may reunite in the future.
