The Romance in 'The Glory' - Why Fans are Enthralled by Song Hye-kyo and Jung Sung-il
The love story in the popular revenge drama "The Glory" is gaining attention.
Netflix original series "The Glory" created buzz as the first genre work by writer Kim Eun-sook and actress Song Hye-kyo. With a tightly woven narrative and satisfying revenge, "The Glory" received much love from viewers.
The hearts of Joo Ye-jung (played by Lee Do-hyun) and Ha Do-young (played by Jung Sung-il) towards Moon Dong-eun (played by Song Hye-kyo), who planned the revenge, also became a hot topic.
The two-shot of Moon Dong-eun and Ha Do-young, who met at the beginning of the story, became a memorable scene, while Joo Ye-jung's feelings towards Moon Dong-eun gave birth to the famous line, "I'll dance the knife dance with you." Furthermore, the visual chemistry between Song Hye-kyo and Jung Sung-il, reminiscent of classic romance films, and the consistent affection of 'younger man' Lee Do-hyun, who resembles a puppy, garnered attention.
In relation to this, "The Glory" writer Kim Eun-sook revealed the feelings of the two men towards Moon Dong-eun.
Kim Eun-sook referred to the love between Joo Ye-jung and Moon Dong-eun as "truly crazy love." "The Glory" ends with Moon Dong-eun participating in Joo Ye-jung's revenge for her. Ultimately, Moon Dong-eun became the one who danced the knife dance with Joo Ye-jung.
The two head towards the prison where Kang Young-cheon (played by Lee Moo-saeng), Joo Ye-jung's target for revenge, is located, and they confess their love to each other by saying, "I love you." Kim Eun-sook explained that their love confession is another expression of "I want to live."
Kim Eun-sook said, "'I love you' is the expression of Ye-jung wanting to live using Dong-eun as an excuse, and Dong-eun wanting to live using Ye-jung as an excuse." She then hinted at their future, saying, "The path of Ye-jung and Dong-eun ultimately leads to revenge and destruction."
The two have already become perpetrators in the process of revenge, and there is no other way to live but to head towards another hell - prison. Kim Eun-sook said, "Ye-jung and Dong-eun are heading towards hell as if they are going to heaven because they are together," emphasizing that they are each other's salvation.
Throughout "The Glory," Ye-jung helps Dong-eun and sees through her vengeful heart. The two gradually support each other's pain and convey a sense of solidarity towards the victims somewhere, evoking a heartwarming feeling beyond excitement.
However, Do-young's love for Dong-eun is different. Kim Eun-sook clearly explained Ha Do-young's feelings for Moon Dong-eun. She revealed that Do-young's heart was heavily embedded in the line, "I don't usually say I don't know, but right now, I don't know."
In the drama, Ha Do-young tells Moon Dong-eun, who informs him of his wife Park Yeon-jin's (played by Im Ji-yeon) wrongdoing, "I just found out that I won't leave Yeon-jin. So let's meet again." This line carries a significant meaning.
Kim Eun-sook explained, "For Do-young, Dong-eun has the role of 'Yeon-jin's husband.' If he leaves Yeon-jin, he would have no reason to see Dong-eun again, so at that moment, Ha Do-young was not certain about his own feelings."
She continued, "When Ha Do-young eats the triangle kimbap, he becomes sure that he had feelings for her."
Ha Do-young, who was depicted as a character who values appearances, stays by Yeon-jin's side without thinking of anything else, solely to see Dong-eun more. This moved the hearts of many "The Glory" viewers.
The chemistry between Jung Sung-il and Song Hye-kyo, who were the talk of the town for their "mature and sexy" visuals, led fans to speculate about Do-young's feelings. With the release of Kim Eun-sook's commentary, various online communities overflowed with reactions like "Ha Do-young's sincerity" and "Thrilling Ha Do-young ♥ Moon Dong-eun."
Fans were captivated by Do-young's feelings for Dong-eun, with comments like, "It's poignant and crazy how Ha Do-young had feelings for her in their impossible relationship," "It turns out that Do-young, who seemed the least emotional, was late to leave Yeon-jin because he liked Dong-eun," and "It's so much fun to see Ye-jung and Do-young loving in different ways."
Kim Eun-sook portrayed the comfortable smile and future together with Joo Ye-jung for Moon Dong-eun and the simple departure of the nice guy Ha Do-young within the genre work. With only a few scenes, she captured the hearts of viewers by drawing different small romances, and the viewers were more enthralled by the meaningful romance.
