Davichi Member Kang Minkyung Faces Criticism After Posting Job With Low Salary For Experienced Customer Service
Member of the South Korean pop duo Davichi, Kang Minkyung, faced some serious flak online for posting a job where she required a high level of skill and education in exchange for a meager salary.
Minkyung posted a job on January 5 that required a customer service person for a three-month contract for Avie Muah, her apparel company. The singer posted the job vacancy on her personal Instagram story.
According to the job posting, the popstar was looking for an experienced degree holder who had at least three to seven years of experience. The annual salary that the singer announced for the job, however, did not seem to match up with the skills and expertise that she was asking for.
Minkyung posted a salary of 25 million KRW, which is approximately 19.5K in US dollars. Considering South Korea's minimum hourly wage is around 9,600 KRW, i.e., about 7.50 USD in 2023. The total salary for the job advertised by her is way too low for someone with the right experience and education.
Soon, after facing a barrage of criticism, Minkyung shared an explanation on her Instagram handle. The singer said that she was surprised to see so many DMs that she had to reconfirm her posting and with that, she was even more surprised.
According to the Davichi member, the person who was in charge of the position had erroneously shared the annual salary of a new graduate instead of one for the talked about customer service posting.
Mingkyung shared that Avie Mua conducted their recruitment procedure after taking a person's career and previous salary into consideration and that she looked forward to working with the chosen candidate.
Incidentally, the singer was in the news last month after making a huge charitable donation to a worthy cause. On December 9, 2022, Minkyung donated approximately 115,000 USD to the Yonsei University Medical Center for social work regarding patients with pediatric cancer. The singer had herself attended the donation ceremony.
The donation meanwhile was collected through an online donation process on Minkyung's YouTube channel and would be used for supporting treatment at the Severance Children's Hospital for childhood cancer patients who belonged to low-income families.
According to Minkyung, as her YouTube channel "iammingki" could grow due to the love of the subscribers, she wanted to deliver the donation under the subscriber's name to a place where greater love was needed. She also hoped that the donation would bring smiles to adolescents and children suffering from childhood cancer.
