BTS Jungkook Creates History, Becomes First K-Pop Solo Artist To Win At 'People's Choice Awards'
The youngest member and Golden maknae of BTS, Jungkook has set a new milestone as a solo artist in his career by winning an award at the People's Choice Awards.
Jungkook was nominated for a collaboration song with American singer Charlie Puth called "Left and Right" in two categories, Music Video of 2022 and Collaboration Song of 2022. The track, which was released, earlier this year, made its debut and peaked on the Billboard Hot 100 at #22.
The song was played at the ceremony when the hosts and award deliverers were announced. "Left and Right" went on to win The Collaboration Song of 2022. In fact, People's Choice Awards called the collab song a Game Changer Collab.
With the win, Jungkook is now the first and only Korean soloist and K-pop solo artist to bag an award at the People's Choice Awards.
After the win, Jungkook trended on Twitter for multiple hashtags and keywords, including #Jungkook1stWin, "Jungkook Paved The Way", "Congratulations Jungkook", and "The Collaboration Song Of 2022", as fans celebrated his win.
It has been a great year for Jungkook, in addition to his PCA win, his song "Dreamers", the official song of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, has spent two consecutive weeks at the No. 1 spot on the Billboard chart for "World Digital Song Sales".
Moreover, "Dreamers" is now the first FIFA world cup song to be positioned in this spot for straight two weeks. It is also at the #13 spot on the Billboard Global 200, at #11 on the Digital Song Sales, and #6 on this week's Billboard Global Excl. US
Meanwhile, BTS also won big at the award show by taking home"The Concert Tour of 2022" for the Permission to Dance on Stage) awards. It was the first offline concert BTS held in Las Vegas, Los Angeles, and Seoul, after the COVID-19 pandemic. The concert had 11 shows attended by more than 450,000 fans.
The Bangtan Boys also took home the trophy for the "Group of 2022". Incidentally, with this year's win, BTS has now won the Group award for three years consecutively, surpassing Maroon 5 to become the band with the most number of wins in this category.
This year the PCA was held in Santa Monica, California at the Barker Hangar. However, the members of BTS could not attend the ceremony.
