BLACKPINK's Lisa Creates History By Becoming First K-Pop Female Solo Artist To Ever Win A MTV Video Music Award
BLACKPINK's Lisa won the "Best K-Pop" award for her solo debut song "LALISA" at the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards, becoming the first female K-pop soloist to bag a VMA.
The Thai-born singer won the prestigious award beating fellow competitors BTS, nominated for "Yet To Come", SEVENTEEN, nominated for "Hot", TWICE, nominated for "The Feels", Stray Kids, nominated for "MANIAC", and ITZY, nominated for "LOCO".
The megastar made her acceptance speech thanking BLACKPINK's fandom, known as the BLINKs, for making such a moment happen. She also called BLINKs her most important ones and that she loved them. Lisa also acknowledged her co-bandmates, Jisoo, Jennie, and Rosé who were incidentally seen cheering for her from one side of the stage.
Following its release in the fall of 2021, "LALISA," made its debut at #2 on the Billboard Global 200 list and #84 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. The song, along with "Money", was a part of Lisa's debut single album.
For BLACKPINK, this year's VMAs was undoubtedly a great night as the group collectively won the award for the "Best Metaverse Performance" for their PUBG collab song "Ready For Love". They won this award against some strong competitors, which included Twenty One Pilots, Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber, Charlie XCX, and fellow K-Pop mega idols BTS.
The quartet also gave a live performance of "Pink Venom", their most recent hit, on the VMAs stage. Taylor Swift was seen in the audience swaying to the performance while also singing along. The moment was also historic as with the stage show BLACKPINK became the first K-pop female act to perform at the VMAs.
The 2022 MTV VMAs took place at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey. The four members of BLACKPINK brought their respective personal styles to the red carpet. Each of the K-pop idols also wore the brands of which they are respective official ambassadors.
Lisa was dressed in a black, off-shoulder jumpsuit from Celine. Jisoo was attired by Dior in a lace top and flowing skirt. Jennie, who represents Chanel, wore a two piece-set, while Rosé sported clothing by Saint Laurent and jewelry by Tiffany & Co. All the girls were uniform in their choice of black outfits.
Except for Rosé, who was seen with blonde locks, the rest of the BLACKPINK members wore their hair black.
