K-pop idol Nayeon of band TWICE, who recently made her solo debut, has set a new record among K-pop female solo artists. According to Billboard's update this past week, the singer made her first appearance on the "Artist 100" chart at No. 5, making a history of sorts among fellow K-pop female solo artists.

The South Korean artist now holds the highest peak by a K-Pop female solo singer on the chart. In addition, Nayeon is now the second highest-peaking female K-Pop act, just behind mega girl group BLACKPINK, who peaked at No. 1.

Earlier, Nayeon had also earned the No. 7 rank on the Billboard 200, becoming the first-ever solo act from Korea to enter the chart's top 10.

The extremely talented artist has been earning one after another achievement with her new debut, the title track "POP!", from her first album "IM NAYEON". The song reached a peak of No. 5 on Billboard Japan's "Hot 100" chart for the July 9 week. "POP" is now the highest-charting K-Pop song (not including releases in Japanese) by a female soloist in Japan's Billboard history.

Meanwhile, the singer also got her first music show win on SBS's "Inkigayo", winning with 6922 points. Netizens are happy that Nayeon has found her due recognition in her home country after winning laurels overseas and in the western world.

It is interesting to note that K-pop became popular in South Korea via music shows rather than radio plays. A win allows one K-pop artist or acts to stand out among their contemporaries, especially in an industry where K-pop bands have new releases lined up every other week or continuously promote their songs and albums on music shows.

K-pop artists who win in music shows get a lot more prominence, especially when they are carving their own solo or rookie debuts. All this while, irrespective of achieving international recognition, fans wanted Nayeon to win a music show and their dreams have finally come true.

Nayeon is the first member of TWICE to make her solo debut with the lead single "POP", which became an instant hit. However, there was no doubt in anyone's mind about Nayeon delivering a super-hit song, going by the history of TWICE, who are known to drop at least one viral track every year such as is the case with the songs "The Feels", "Fancy", and "TT".
