BTS Bags 3 Awards At 2022 Billboard Music Awards, Becomes Group With Highest Wins In Show's History
Megastars BTS has created history after winning several awards at the 2022 Billboard Music Awards.
BTS bagged three awards out of the six categories for which they were nominated this year. They had nominations in the categories for Top Rock Song, Top Billboard Global song (outside the United States), Top Selling Song (for Butter and Permission to Dance), Top Billboard Global Artist (excluding the United States), and Top Song Sales Artist.
The globally-popular band won Top Selling Song for their superhit song "Butter", Top Song Sales Artist, and Top Duo/Group. It is the second year in a row that the group has won in these three categories.
The Kings of K-pop have surpassed Destiny's Child to become the group with the most wins in the history of the BBMAs.
The Bangtan Boys BTS have won a trophy at every single Billboard Music Award since 2017. The septet now holds 12 BBMA wins against Destiny's Child's 11 awards. The record of Destiny's Child having the most BBMAs was unbeatable for 17 years.
BTS has also leveled up with One Direction for the number of wins in the Top Duo/Group category. It is the third time the band has won in this category, after 2019 and 2021.
The official Twitter account of BBMAs has shared the good news on their handle and congratulated the Bangtan Boys. The official Twitter handle of BTS also put up a post saying that they had won BBMAs for six consecutive years and thanked everyone for listening to their music and giving them support.
Meanwhile, BTS members V, Jungkook, Jimin, Jin, SUGA, RM, and J-Hope missed the award ceremony this year and did not perform at the show.
The band, who were in Las Vegas last month in April for their four-day "Permission to Dance on Stage concert", did not return to the city, where the BBMAs were also held on Sunday at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, hosted by P Diddy.
The South Korean group reportedly gave the BBMAs a miss because they are currently focused on the release of their upcoming anthology album "Proof", which is slated for release on June 10.
Meanwhile, American pop sensation Olivia Rodrigo was the biggest winner of the night at the 2022 BBMAs as the biggest winner of the evening with seven awards. Kanye West followed closely behind her with six awards.
