BTS V Tops U.S. iTunes In Record Time With OST 'Christmas Tree'
V's most talked-about OST of 2021 "Christmas Tree" has dethroned legendary hit and holiday classic "All I Want For Christmas Is You" by Mariah Carey in just an hour of release.
V took Mariah Carey's place on the Bugs Korea music chart.
The original soundtrack of the Netflix K-drama "Our Beloved Summer" also topped in the iTunes chart in more than 61 countries in two hours of release, including Netherlands, Spain, Thailand, Singapore, India, Canada, and the US, which reportedly makes it the fastest solo song to earn this feat.
TaeTae's Christmas Tree and Sweet Night are the only OSTS by a Korean artist to debut right at No. 1 on US iTunes. The song also entered the music chart Melon as well as and Genie at No. 49, and Bugs Korea at No. 1 within an hour of release. Within 2 hours, the track No. 1 on Billboard Hot Trending songs.
"Christmas Tree" is a guitar-based, soft acoustic, minimal, emotion-evoking song that highlights the melody of V's rich honey vocals. The song marks Kim Taehyung's third OST project. His journey in the official soundtrack space started with "It's Definitely You" along with BTS band member Jin for the period drama "Hwarang".
The beloved singer returned with his second OST "Sweet Night" for the hit drama "Itaewon Class" in 2020, which too became really popular. Previously, V has dropped songs like "Snow Floer" and "Winter Bear" during Christmas time.
"Christmas Tree" track release was accompanied by a music video, which featured the lead actors Choi Woo Sik and Kim Da Mi. The video began with the first episodes of the series with Choi Woong playing music on a vintage record player and going to his desk to work on his drawing.
Meanwhile, the Bangtan Boys have officially been ranked the No. 1 best-selling artist on Oricon this year. Oricon officially revealed the total revenue of BTS in 2021, and the band more than 161 million USD in revenue.
With these figures, BTS' revenue this year holds the highest total revenue earned by a Korean act in a single year on Oricon, taking the top two positions for 2020 and 2021 followed by TVXQ (2010).
The seven-member group also took the No. 1 spot on Oricon's 2021 Annual Artist ranking and became the first foreign artist to top the year-end chart in the history of Oricon.
