The music video offers a new taste of K-Pop sophistication, as it was shot in Auckland, New Zealand. The scenes were taken in a small pub in Auckland with Kim Taeyeon as a food server. The song rolled out, and Taeyeon comes in singing how important it is to be oneself, unencumbered by insecurities and fear.
Upon the release of the music video, the fans were swift to commend the mixture of the city and nature scenes. From Kim Taeyeon, walking in the city limits, driving a luxury car in the outskirts, to the set up where she met her own alter persona on the beach.
One fun fact is that Kim Taeyeon's older brother made an appearance in the music video as a police officer.
The hit-track, which features 39-year-old musician-rapper Verbal Jint, is a single from Kim Taeyeon's LP of the same name that was digitally released on October 7, 2015. 'I' was written by Kim Taeyeon herself, Kim Jin-Tae, a.k.a Verbal Hint, and Mafly.
The song producers include Rhyan S. Jhun, Justin T. Armstrong, David Quinones, Jon Asher, Myah Marie Langston, Cosmopolitan Douglas, and Bennet Armstrong.
According to Jeff Benjamin from Billboard, 'I' resembles the 'State of Grace' track of the international Grammy-winning singer Taylor Swift's 'Red' album. 'I' garnered a total of 15,000 downloads in the U.S., making it as Kim Taeyeon's best-selling single since she went solo.
For starters, Kim Taeyeon is a member and leader of Girls' Generation who ventured out in doing solo stunts in 2015. Kim Taeyeon is also known as a K-drama and film OST singer.
