BTS Becomes First Korean Act To Land No. 1 On Billboard's Hot 100 With 'Dynamite'
BTS made history in Korean music as their new disco-themed track "Dynamite" rocketed to the top spot of the Billboards 100, making their target a sound bullseye!
Billboard has finally unveiled the top 10 on its Hot 100 for the week ending on September 5. The chart reflects the ranking of the most popular songs in the United States - across all genres, based on streaming, sales data, and radio play.
As reported by Yahoo!money, the first all-English language single, "Dynamite" of the majestic septet, notched 33.9 million US streams and 300,000 sales on its first week, which ended on August 27, based on the data by Nielsen music. BTS also scored the most significant digital sales week in nearly three years since September 2017 with Taylor Swift's lead single "Look What You Made Me Do."
The boyband also gained 11.6 million radio airplay impressions in the week that ended on August 30. The recorded digits are the highest ranking on the chart achieved by an all-Korean group!
Furthermore, with 265,000 downloads, "Dynamite roared in its first week with its over-all first-week sales of 300,000 including vinyl and physical cassette versions.
The superstars' newly achieved feat with "Dynamite," as reported by Soompi, marks incredible overpassing with PSY's "Gangnam Style" in 2012 that peaked at number 2. The Japanese-born Kyu Sakamoto was the first Asian artist to reach No. 1 on the chart in 1963 with "Sukiyaki," which enjoyed the top spot for three weeks.
It can also be recalled that the BTS preview title track "ON" debuted on the Hot 100 at No. 4 in March, achieving the groups highest ranking at the time and a Korean groups' highest score.
Moreover, "Dynamite" also took No. 1 in the Digital Songs Sales chart this week and landed No. Three on the Streaming Songs chart.
Meanwhile, BTS took the VMA stage for the first time on August 30 and swept all awards they were nominated for on the 2020 MTV Video Music Awards. They bagged four trophies in total, including Best Pop.
