BLACKPINK's Rose Share Why They Don't Have Too Many Comebacks
If there is one aspect that BLINKs like, it's more BLACKPINK music. That being said, Rosé admitted in an interview with Zane Lowe for New Music Daily Radio that the band has a reason not to bring out too many comeback tracks.
Selena Gomez's "Ice Cream" collaboration project is the perfect summer song — something Zane Lowe scooped up on instantly. When the moderator questioned BLACKPINK about how they spent their summer in the middle of the COVID-19 disease outbreak, they admitted that they used the time creatively and wisely.
Jennie clarified that they are actively working on their first record, called The Album, so they're regularly in the studio. In reality, Rosé went on to disclose they have spent the past two months in the studio "almost every day."
They always finish the day in the production room even though they have different responsibilities to take part, which the members appreciate. With the time they're spending in the studio, of course, Zane Lowe thought that this would mean that BLACKPINK has several songs on the table. But Rosé clarified that they're not a quantity-focused group. It is all about quality, instead. She said that BLACKPINK is "not really about offering a bunch of songs to people."
Even so, the band has much less than 20 tracks to its credit four years into their professional life, including B-sides and collaboration projects, lesser than other girl groups. Since their debut four years ago, one of the "Big 3" girl group, TWICE, released about 90 songs already.
For years, fans have criticized BLACKPINK's limited music collection, but Rosé says the team is trying to do their utmost with a limited set of tracks rather than bringing out hundreds of low-quality hits. She admitted they also scrap tracks that they don't think can "fulfill the album" occasionally.
This may clarify why united supporters have discovered only eight hits on the tracklist, considering YG Entertainment revealed that 'The Album' would have "over ten tracks" a few months ago.
Arguably, while BLINKs hoped they could be listening to even more BLACKPINK music, Zane Lowe concluded with Rosé 's sentiment. "One of the aspects that I like about the fact you've evolved as a team is that you've not only engulfed us in songs, as you say. After music, you have not yet launched songs after songs continuously. It has been an experience every time you come back, and it has been a point in time." (via Koreaboo)
