Premiere Of ‘Space Sweepers’ Postponed Due To COVID-19 Outbreak
The premiere of the sci-fi movie "Space Sweepers," starring Song Joong Ki and Kim Tae Ri, has been postponed due to the COVID-19 affecting the whole world.
Investment distributor Merry Christmas confirms that the "Space Sweepers" release on September 23 will be postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic's raise of cases. The distributor added that they will keep an eye on the future release schedule and will let the media know as soon as they have concluded the right time for a release.
"Space Sweepers" cast Song Joong Ki, Kim Tae Ri, Jin Seon Kyu, Yoo Hai Jin, and director Jo Sung-Hee attended a preview press conference in Seoul on Tuesday. Initially scheduled for taking place in the local cinema, the event was live-streamed online due to the COVID-19 resurgence.
The film's director Jo Sung-Hee talks about the film's inception on the Livestream, saying that it started at a local conversation with a friend of his ten years ago. The director's friend told him about space debris dumped from work done up in space, saying their speed is faster than a bullet, and they're already a serious problem.
The director added that "Space Sweepers" has been featured in games and animation in the past. Still, he wondered if it would be a good idea if it was portrayed in the cinematic view and wondered how it would be to feature South Koreans, as we are known for our tenacity that enables us to survive anywhere in the world.
Song Joong Ki is teamed up with director Jo Sung-Hee for the second time in "Space Sweepers" as they have worked in the past with the film "A Werewolf Boy" back in 2012. Song Joong Ki will be playing a pilot of the ship 'Victory,' a debris-collecting space shuttle, and drives his crew across the universe, collecting trash in exchange for money.
"Space Sweepers" is a film about a spaceship named 'Victory,' which collects space trash, set in the year 2092. When its crew discovers a humanoid robot named Dorothy known to be a weapon of mass destruction, they get involved in a risky business deal.
