Controversy over late actress Sulli's exposure scene in the film Real has resurfaced, as her family publicly demanded an explanation from lead actor Kim Soo-hyun and the film's production team. Now, former director Lee Jung-sub has broken his silence on the issue.

On March 28, director Lee addressed the growing scrutiny in a statement via social media, writing, "A comment was recently left on an old tweet about my replacement during the production of the 2017 film Real. It breaks my heart to see the film being revisited now because of that actor [Kim Soo-hyun]." He added, "Now that the movie is out, I can say this-what happened to that film was not even 1% my fault."

Earlier, Sulli's older brother Choi, through Kwon Young-chan, director of the Korea Celebrity Suicide Prevention Association, raised questions surrounding the explicit scenes Sulli filmed in Real. "It was something I heard at her funeral in 2019," he stated, claiming that "there were signs that Sulli was pressured into nude and bed scenes during the shoot."

He further noted, "There were also claims that scenes of higher sexual content than what was originally written in the script were added. It was explained that a body double was unavailable due to poor condition, but others said the double was actually present on set." Choi concluded, "Though the person involved is no longer with us, I want to hear from Kim Soo-hyun and the director, Lee Sa-rang-now known as Lee Robe."

Sulli co-starred with Kim Soo-hyun in Real, which was released in 2017. The film follows the story of two men caught in a web of secrets surrounding Asia's largest casino. Director Lee Jung-sub was initially in charge but departed during post-production. At that point, Lee Sa-rang, the CEO of the production company and a relative of Kim Soo-hyun, took over directing. At the time, the production stated that the director was changed due to "differences in creative direction."

As Kim Soo-hyun faces renewed controversy over his alleged past relationship with the late Kim Sae-ron, scenes from Real featuring Sulli have also come under renewed scrutiny. Director Lee, reacting to online posts about the issue, shared a related article and left a sharp comment, saying, "Same attack tactics. That trauma XX."

Meanwhile, Kim Soo-hyun is facing allegations that he dated Kim Sae-ron while she was still a minor. According to the late actress's family, the relationship lasted from 2015 to 2021. Kim Soo-hyun's agency initially denied the claim as "completely false," but after photos of the two surfaced, the agency changed its stance, stating the relationship began in the summer of 2019 after Kim Sae-ron had become a legal adult.
