New Anthem for BTS ARMYs: 'Tears' Joins 'Spring Day' in Soothing Separation Woes
BTS fans, known as ARMYs, have added another 'waiting song' to their playlist as they send off BTS to military service. Following 'Spring Day,' now it's 'Tears' that's gaining attention.
As all members of BTS have begun their military service, another song, 'Outro: Tear' (Outro:Tear), has made a surprising entry into the charts alongside the reverse-running hit 'Spring Day.' According to the American popular music media Billboard on the 20th (Korean time), 'Outro: Tear' has newly entered the 'Digital Song Sales' section of the major charts at 22nd place.
Following the enlistment of RM, V, Jimin, and Jungkook, 'Spring Day' had previously ranked 5th on the same chart.
Looking at the 'World Digital Song Sales' chart, the list of 'waiting songs' grows even longer. While 'Spring Day' has clinched 1st place, 'Outro: Tear' is at 2nd, their debut song from over a decade ago, 'No More Dream' is 6th, and 'Louder Than Bombs' is ranked 8th. These songs were released as far back as 5 to 10 years ago.
The unusual reverse charting of BTS songs is being interpreted inside and outside the K-pop industry as another act of support from the massive fandom, akin to a meme. Especially regarding the strong presence on music charts, some analysts suggest that the 're-listening' movement by the ARMYs through various global music platforms has become a significant trend, and its results are being reflected in the rankings.
BTS has fully entered its military hiatus with RM and V enlisting on the 11th, followed by Jimin and Jungkook on the 12th. A comeback as the complete BTS group is anticipated to be around 2025.
