'Post-Prison Release' Seungri Showcases 'Korean Traditional Style' with Soju Bottle Shake at Gathering, Sparks 'Mixed Reactions'
Former BIGBANG member Seungri, who served a prison sentence for allegations of prostitution mediation and overseas gambling, was spotted at a restaurant in Korea.
Recently, a video featuring Seungri at the restaurant has been drawing attention on online communities. The video was captured by Grace Tahir, an Indonesian entrepreneur who co-founded Mayapada Hospital and is active on YouTube and podcasts.
Tahir visited Korea on the 21st and shared a video of herself touring Seoul with Seungri and enjoying a drink together on her account, which has over 220,000 followers.
In the video, Seungri, wearing sunglasses, showcases his flashy showmanship while pouring soju from a bottle. Seungri excitedly shakes the soju bottle, saying, "This is the traditional Korean style of shaking soju bottles."
He also demonstrates how to hit the bottom of the soju bottle with the palm and elbow, saying, "You can also do it with your elbow like this." Seungri then opens the bottle cap, hits the bottleneck, and places the bottle down with a wide smile as part of his performance.
The video quickly spread among Seungri's fans. Responding to fans asking about Seungri's recent status, Tahir said, "I didn't know Seungri was this popular. He is physically and mentally healthy.
When I asked about his parents, he said they were fine." She added, "He enjoys talking and is quite chatty. I thought he would appear as he does in Google photos, with blonde hair and makeup, but he didn't." She also mentioned, "I asked if he wanted to do an interview, but he said not at the moment."
Tahir shared her thoughts, saying, "It's hard to be forgiven once you go to jail, and people know this, making it difficult to find a job. In Korea, social sanctions are severe. People trust and believe what they see in the media. They think that if they don't study hard and go to a good school, they will fail because of the social sanctions that are imposed in schools."
The video has sparked a heated debate among netizens. While some fans welcomed Seungri's cheerful update, others criticized him, saying, "There's no sign of remorse" and "He's addicted to nightlife."
Seungri was indicted last year in May on charges including habitual gambling, violation of the Foreign Exchange Transactions Act, and violation of the Act on the Punishment of Sexual Crimes (prostitution and prostitution mediation, filming using cameras, etc.). He was sentenced to one year and six months in prison and served his sentence at Yeoju Prison in Gyeonggi Province. He was released upon completion of his sentence on February 9th.
