South Korean actor Kim Min Kyo is reportedly facing a sentence of a two-year-long probationary period. He is being sentenced after his dog bit an elderly person, eventually leading to their death.

On May 9, 2020, Kim Min Kyo had left his dog out in the yard of his house, which is located in Gwangju, Gyeonggi Province. The yard was fenced off, however, the fence was not closed properly. Consequently, the actor's dog ran out and bit an elderly person in their eighties on the arm as well as the leg, causing injuries.

Subsequently, the elderly person who was bitten by the dog was hospitalized for nearly two months, before they passed away in July 2020.

The actor's dog has had a history of attacking people and would not be leashed even after several complaints.

The judge presiding over the case said that past records also showed that the dog also had problems before the incident, where it bit the elderly neighbor. However, Kim Min Ryo failed in paying close attention to the method he used to raise the dog, thereby violating his responsibilities and duties as the owner of a dog. Moreover, a life was taken due to Kim Min Kyo's mistakes.

The judge added that the defendant had admitted to his mistake and shown an attitude of reflection. He also shared that as Kim Min Kyo also came to a settlement with the family members of the victim, the sentence will be focusing on ensuring that the defendant does not make the same mistake again and also make his dog train with an expert trainer.

Meanwhile, the actor will not be appealing the decision of the court. If he commits a similar crime during the course of his two-year-long probationary period, then he will be facing a minimum of eight months in jail.

In response to his dog causing such a terrible incident, Kim Min Kyo posted an apology on SNS, however, he did not apologize directly to the family members of the deceased elderly person.

On the professional front, Kim Min Kyo made his debut in the Korean entertainment industry with the film "Seongcheol" in 1998. He has gone on to appear in various films, dramas, and reality shows over the years. He was also a cast member on "Saturday Night Live Korea", the tvN entertainment show.
