Despite Legal Disputes, NewJeans Shatters Spotify Records, Proving Global Influence
NewJeans has demonstrated their undeniable global influence by setting new records on Spotify, even amidst ongoing legal controversies involving their agency, ADOR, and a music video director.
According to Spotify on the 11th, NewJeans' Japanese debut single "Supernatural" and its title track have achieved a cumulative 100,682,480 streams as of November 9. Furthermore, their track "ETA," one of the triple title songs from their second EP Get Up, surpassed 300 million streams, making it NewJeans' seventh song to reach this milestone on the platform.
Both songs received immense love from global fans upon their release. "Supernatural" not only topped key music charts in Japan and South Korea but also maintained a spot on the U.S. Billboard Global Song Chart for 14 consecutive weeks, showcasing sustained popularity. "ETA," on the other hand, dominated domestic charts, securing the top positions and appearing on Billboard's main 'Hot 100' chart, reaffirming NewJeans' international impact. More than a year after its release, "ETA" has experienced a resurgence in popularity through social media buzz, recently topping the Apple Music K-pop chart.
Currently, NewJeans boasts a total of 14 songs that have surpassed 100 million streams on Spotify. Among their most notable hits, "OMG" has over 700 million streams; "Ditto," "Super Shy," and "Hype Boy" each surpassed 600 million; and "Attention" has more than 400 million streams. "New Jeans" and "ETA" each exceeded 300 million streams, while "Cookie," "Hurt," and "Cool With You" have crossed the 200 million mark. Their tracks "ASAP," "Get Up," "How Sweet," and "Supernatural" have all surpassed 100 million streams. In total, NewJeans' collective Spotify streams exceed 5.4 billion.
Meanwhile, it has been revealed that NewJeans' agency, ADOR, has filed a civil lawsuit against director Shin Woo-seok, who was responsible for creating music videos for hits like "Ditto," "OMG," and "ETA," citing breach of contract and other reasons. Despite this legal dispute, the group's achievements continue to shine, underlining their strong connection with a global fanbase and proving their staying power in the industry.
