BTS V's 'Layover' Soars to #2 on Billboard 200
Living up to his global superstar status, BTS member V has clinched the 2nd spot on the U.S. Billboard main album chart, 'Billboard 200', with his debut solo album 'Layover'.
On September 18th (KST), Billboard previewed its latest chart (dated the 23rd) revealing that V's 'Layover' secured its position right behind pop star Olivia Rodrigo's 'Guts'. This achievement mirrors the same rank previously recorded by fellow BTS members Jimin and Suga with their solo albums. The three members have now set a parallel record, marking the highest rank for K-pop soloists.
'Layover' reported sales of 100,000 units in its first week in the U.S. This consisted of 88,000 traditional album sales, 9,000 units from Stream Equivalent Albums (SEA), and 3,000 units from Track Equivalent Albums (TEA).
The solo album, rooted in the pop R&B genre, features a total of six tracks, including the title song 'Slow Dancing'. The album garnered attention as it was overseen by Min Hee-jin, the founder of the group Newjins and the CEO and chief producer of Adore, who was responsible for the music, choreography, and design of the entire album. Chief Producer Min aimed to capture V's inherent simple charm in music, rather than his flamboyant stage presence.
Domestic fans also resonated with V's authentic image, resulting in the album selling a staggering 2.1 million copies in its first week based on the Hanteo Chart, setting a new record for K-pop soloists.
