NewJeans Snags First Place on 'Music Core'; Jeon Hyun-moo's Special MC Appearance Sparks Year-end Awards Show Vibe
K-pop sensation NewJeans scored the top spot on "Show! Music Core".
On the afternoon of July 22, MBC's music program "Show! Music Core" broadcasted an episode with TV personality Jeon Hyun-moo and Haewon from the girl group ENMIX as special guest hosts, joining the regular MC Seolyoon of ENMIX.
In an intriguing trio of MCs - Jeon Hyun-moo, Seolyoon, and Haewon - 'Music Core' revealed the contenders for the top spot for the fourth week of July 2023. The nominees were NewJeans' latest hit 'Super Shy', EXO's comeback song 'Cream Soda', and 'Seven', a solo track from BTS member Jungkook.
The star of the day, taking the number one position, was NewJeans. They seized the top spot by a significant margin in both album and digital music sales. Amidst a competition where none of the top three contenders were present, the relative newcomer NewJeans stood out by taking home the trophy.
In other performances of the day, NCT Dream showcased their new song 'ISTJ', a clever and entertaining track that humorously referenced the current domestic trend of MBTI personality tests, delighting the eyes and ears of the audience.
Sandara Park graced the stage with a remake of veteran singer Uhm Jung-hwa's hit song 'FESTIVAL'. Her performance, marked by refreshing summer vibes, party spirit, unique vacation-like fashion, and a reinterpretation of the original song to fit the current mood, drew great admiration.
ENMIX also performed their new songs 'Roller Coaster' and 'Party O'Clock' back-to-back. Not only did Seolyoon and Haewon, who served as special MCs, shine, but the chemistry of all the ENMIX members brought warmth to their fans.
At the end of the broadcast, Jeon Hyun-moo expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome he received as a special MC in front of the entire 'Music Core' cast. Sandara Park, who appeared alongside him on another MBC entertainment program 'I Live Alone', praised him saying, "With Hyun-moo oppa here, it feels like an end-of-the-year awards show. Seeing how well he hosted and performed, I think he could even release an album and stand on this stage as a singer."
The episode also featured performances from Kim Jaehwan, Odd Eye Circle, ZeroBaseOne, Future Boy, Ichillin, Suan, Queenz Eye, Eighton, Superkind, and Yoon Soohyun.
