Concerns Raised Amid Aespa's Yankees First Pitch; Air Quality Issues In NYC Spark Worry Among Fans
Fans of South Korean girl group Aespa, fondly known as MY, voiced their anxieties about the group's involvement in the New York Yankees baseball match amidst air quality concerns in the city.
Aespa members, including Karina, Winter, and Ningning, embarked on their journey from Incheon airport on Wednesday, setting course for New York. They were scheduled to throw the ceremonial first pitch at a New York Yankees match and grace The Governors Ball Music Festival. Giselle, however, missed out on these plans due to health complications, as reported by Koreaboo.
While the MYs showed enthusiasm about Aespa's participation in both functions, they couldn't overlook their concerns about the group members' wellbeing given the air quality conditions in New York prior to the baseball game.
Recent reports by CNN highlighted that parts of New York City were experiencing some of the globe's worst air pollution on Tuesday, resulting from harmful wildfire smoke billowing from Canada and shrouding the Northeast. An unsettling video from Yankee Stadium, swathed in an orange haze from the Canadian wildfires, was also shared by a Newsday sports journalist.
Fears grew among fans, as evident from tweets like, "This air quality. AESPA, STAY INDOORS," and "I live here, and it's pretty nasty outside. I'm concerned." Others expressed disbelief, stating, "Really don't understand why they will hold the game in such bad weather. Can't it be delayed? Some events are canceled due to the awful weather... Aespa, please keep healthy." Fortunately, as the air quality showed signs of improvement, Aespa's debut major league pitch at the Yankees Stadium proceeded as planned. Social media platforms, including the official Twitter accounts of the New York Yankees, MLB (Major League Baseball), and Aespa, were buzzing with updates about the group's special involvement in the New York Yankees match. Aespa's maiden major league pitch underscored their international stature, according to Osen. The group member Winter was selected as the team's representative and the game's first pitcher in the clash between the New York Yankees and the Chicago White Sox.
Fans heaved a sigh of relief, witnessing Aespa's enjoyment at the New York Yankees match, and flooded social media with their support using the hashtag #aespaAtYANKEE.
"We love living in aespa's world," gushed one fan, while another thanked the MLB, saying, "Thank you for having them!"
Meanwhile, The Governors Ball Music Festival assured attendees through an online announcement that they are vigilantly monitoring air quality in partnership with weather experts and staying in touch with city officials.
The three-day festival will occur at the Flushing Meadows Corona Park in Queens, with Aespa claiming the spotlight on the main stage on day two.
Aespa, after recently launching their third extended play (EP) "My World" and the music video for the title track "Spicy" on May 8, are set to continue captivating fans with their performances.
