Astro's Moonbin Tragedy: M Countdown and Boys Planet Production Teams in Deep Reflection
The sudden passing of Moonbin, a member of the boy group Astro, has left the Korean music industry in shock and sorrow. As a result, the Mnet music program 'M Countdown' and the idol competition show 'Boys Planet,' both scheduled to air on the 20th, are expected to be significantly affected.
"M Countdown," which broadcasts live every Thursday at 6 pm from the CJ ENM Center in Sangam-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul, is anticipated to proceed in a more subdued manner than usual, considering the somber atmosphere surrounding Moonbin's passing. The production team is expected to convey a message of tribute during the broadcast. An industry insider told Star News, "The broadcast will proceed as scheduled, but performers have been asked to refrain from uploading related content on their social media platforms."
The lineup for the day's show includes NCT's Dojaejeong, IVE, Kepler, Lee Gi-kwang, Tempest, Drippin, and others. Billlie was initially scheduled to appear but has canceled all activities for the week following Moonbin's death. Billlie member Moon Sua, Moonbin's younger sister, is currently grieving at the funeral hall.
"Boys Planet" is set to hold its final competition at 8:50 pm at the Jamsil Indoor Gymnasium in Jamsil-dong, Songpa-gu, Seoul. The program is an audition to select members for a new generation boy group. Finalists include Jang Hao, Kim Jiwoong, Kim Taerae, Han Yujin, Keita, Kim Kyubin, Ricky, and Seok Matthew, among others. Hui (Lee Hoe-taek), formerly the leader of boy group Pentagon, is also included in the final lineup.
With the heartbreaking news of Moonbin's death, the production team for 'Boys Planet' is said to be struggling. A representative from CJ ENM stated, "We don't have any comments to share at the moment." Another industry insider added, "Entertainers with scheduled events today are all concerned, and meetings are being held. The broadcast's outcome will be clear once the production team's meeting results are released."
Moonbin was found dead at his residence in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, at 8:10 pm on the 19th. He was 25 years old. His manager discovered him and reported the incident to the police. Authorities are investigating the exact cause of his death, believing it to be a result of a drastic decision. The funeral hall is set up at Seoul Asan Hospital, with Astro members staying by his side. Fantagio, his agency, stated, "Moonbin has suddenly left us to become a star in the sky. Astro members, fellow artists, and employees at Fantagio are all deeply mourning and in shock."
