Jung Joon Young And Choi Jonghoon Receive Final Verdict For Sexual Charges
Jung Joon Young and Choi Jonghoon were eventually sentenced to jail for gang rape crimes, with their petitions rejected by the Supreme Court of Korea.
Supreme Court Chief Justice Park Sang Ok agreed at 10:10 a.m. on 24 September to disregard the petition submitted by Jung Joon Young and Choi Jonghoon. In the second trial, Jung Joon Young had been found guilty and was given a sentence of 5 years jail time, while Choi Jonghoon had been convicted to a term of 2 years and six months in jail.
The other two initially submitted a plea against the decision. Jung Joon Young had been initially sentenced to six years in a jail cell in November 2019, and Choi Jonghoon was punished to five years in prison for contravening the Violence Crimes Act.
Furthermore, "Kwon," the older brother of Girls' Generation's Yuri, was subjected to four years of imprisonment. Meanwhile, "Kim" was granted five years in detention, and the film company employee "Heo" was issued two years' probation.
All of the five accused filed appeals toward the November verdict. The first lawsuit shortened Jung Joon Young's term to five years. He couldn't make amends with the victim, although he expressed guilt.
The penalty of Choi Jonghoon, who managed to find a peace agreement with the victim, was shortened to two and six months, just like Kim, whose sentence reduced down to four years.
The same sentence was given upon "Kwon" and "Heo" in the appeal hearings. After revealing he recorded women in private and circulated the footage, he left the music industry in March.
The accusation that some of the world's largest K-pop stars have committed these crimes are a rising embarrassment. At that point, lawyer Cha Mee-Kyung defined this sexual violence as "hidden crimes" while probing the problem back in 2019.
