The appeal trial for rapper Bassagong (36, real name Kim Jin Woo), who was sentenced to imprisonment on charges of illegally filming a woman he was previously in a relationship with and distributing the photos in a group chat, will resume in June.

According to legal circles, the Seoul Western District Court's 1st Criminal Division (Appeal) is scheduled to hold the first trial for Bassagong's appeal on charges of violating the Special Act on the Punishment of Sexual Violence Crimes (filming using a camera) on June 8.

Bassagong is accused of secretly filming victim A, with whom he was in a relationship in 2018, and spreading her photos in a group chat. Bassagong was prosecuted on charges of violating the Special Act on the Punishment of Sexual Violence Crimes. However, in this process, serious secondary damage occurred, including the forced exposure of A's identity.

Subsequently, the Seoul Western District Court Criminal 6 Solo (Judge Kim Yumi) sentenced Bassagong to one year in prison in the first trial held on the 12th, and ordered a 40-hour sexual violence treatment program completion, employment restrictions at child and youth institutions, and welfare facilities for the disabled for three years each.

In this sentencing, the court continuously mentioned that Bassagong did not make efforts to restore the victim's honor, and failed to reach a settlement with the victim, stating, "The crime is bad," and "The defendant admits all the facts of the prosecution in this case and is found guilty. The defendant filmed the victim undressing while she was sleeping and posted it in a group chat with 10 men, all bad in terms of the process, method, and nature of the crime." It continued, "Filming and distributing illegal footage causes irreparable damage to the victim's honor and its recovery is difficult. Also, there is a high possibility of being distributed afterwards, causing psychological pain to the victim. The social damage is also great," emphasizing the severity of the matter.

In response to this case, Bassagong submitted over 40 letters of reflection and a petition that far exceeds 100 pages to the court. In addition, he deposited 20 million won as compensation without the victim's knowledge and appealed his living difficulties during the sentencing trial.

Following this, Bassagong appealed through the law firm Jihyuk just one day after the sentence, and the prosecution also submitted an appeal, stating, "Considering the bad nature of the crime and the victim's demand for severe punishment, we have meticulously considered it."
